Donna Gail Nichols

In Loving Memory: Donna Gail Futch Nichols (May 14,1950 - April 6, 2024)

Donna Gail Futch Nichols, age 73, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 14,1950, in Statesboro, Georgia to the late Jackie Aldrich and William Futch.

Donna was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She touched the lives of many with her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her family and friends.

Donna graduated from Claxton High School in 1968 and went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Secondary English Education from Georgia Southern University. She pursued a successful career in education, working with middle and high school students in the Chatham County School District for 30 years.

Her smile was a true reflection of the joy she brought to the lives of others. It was a reminder of her compassionate spirit and the love she shared with everyone fortunate enough to know her. She cherished spending time with her family and friends. Donna found solace in the beauty of Tybee Island and shared her enthusiasm with all those that she loved.

Donna is preceded in death by her loving husbands, Danny Pittman (2 years) and Jerome Nichols (7 years). She is survived by her daughter, Sandy Nichols Moore of West Union, South Carolina. Donna’s role as a grandmother brought her immeasurable joy. She adored her grandchildren Thomas Moore (Sally) and Annie Moore; her great grandchildren Lila, Violet, and Mary Anderson Moore as well as several other cousins. They were the light of her life, and she will forever hold a special place in their hearts.

A service to celebrate the remarkable life of Donna Gail will be held at Greenwich Cemetery on April 10, 2024, public visitation from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM followed by a graveside service at 11:00AM. The family requests that any donations be made in Donna’s name to the Chatham County Humane Society. May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may her memory be a source of comfort and strength to all those who mourn her loss

Donna was one amazing person! Growing up in Claxton, many of us shared lots of great times at Claxton High. Donna was one of those faithful “Tigers” who spent time cheering, supporting, keeping statistics and scorebooks throughout high school. She was a major player in the production of The Chatter and was editor our Senior year. If it hadn’t been for her mama and daddy “hauling” us around, I may have never been able to go to most of the athletic events during those years. Donna was laidback and a peacemaker. She was loyal, funny, a little mischievous but smart enough to never get caught! I cherished her friendship and was not surprised that she made a champion-effort to make it to our 55th reunion just 5 months ago. All of her life, she has shown us what fortitude really is. She blessed my life!
